Groq hardware does one thing: low-latency inference on the models it hosts, mostly open-weight ones such as Llama and Mixtral. For an interactive tool where response speed matters more than having every model available, you notice the difference.

The model list is shorter than a general-purpose router offers, because it depends on what is deployed on their hardware. Choose it when your model is available there and speed decides. Look elsewhere for the newest proprietary model on release day.

Notes from the author

Benchmark with your real prompt length and skip the short test message. The speed shows most on long generations, where per-token latency adds up.
