Error code: 404 - The model gpt-4-old does not exist or you do not have access to it.

The service understood your request and does not know that model. That is almost always a name problem or an access problem.

Model names change and old ones are retired. Some models are only available on certain plans, in certain regions, or after you request access. A name copied from a tutorial can be out of date.

Notes from the author

Ask the service for its list. Most APIs have a list-models call. Use a name exactly as it returns it, including version suffixes.

Check access. Look in your account for the model under your plan, usage tier or region. A newly released model may need a separate request.

Pin a name you control. Keep the model name in one config variable and not scattered through the code, so you can change it in one place when a model is retired.

Read the deprecation notices. Providers announce retirement dates. A scheduled job that worked last year can start failing on the retirement date. This guide is general information and comes with no guarantee. Settings and messages differ by provider and version.
