Slash command
A command typed as /word at the start of a message. The app recognises it itself and does not send it to the model as text.
The interface catches a slash command before the model sees it. Type /clear, /model or /init and the tool runs a built-in action, not a prompt. A normal instruction is read and interpreted by the model. A slash command is handled by the application around it, and the model plays no part.
Most coding assistants and chat apps ship a similar set: switch model, free up the context window, start a review, hand a task to a background agent. Matching names do not mean matching behaviour. Each application defines its own list and what sits behind each entry.
Only the very start of a message triggers one. A slash further down inside a longer prompt is read as ordinary text. Position decides, and the character does not.
