LangChain
A Python and JavaScript framework for chaining prompts, tools and retrieval into a pipeline, with a large set of ready-made integrations.

LangChain is worth it for the integrations. Connectors for most vector stores, model providers and document loaders already exist, so a retrieval pipeline that would take days from raw API calls can be assembled from parts that exist.
The breadth is also the usual complaint. The abstractions put a layer between you and the API calls, and debugging a chain that misbehaves means reading through that layer first. For a single model call with no chaining, skip it and call the API directly.
Notes from the author
Read the actual prompt LangChain sends before you trust a chain. The abstraction can wrap your text in lines you never wrote. Most providers have a debug or verbose mode that prints it.
